IFMASA CONTRIBUTIONS TO FACILITIES SCHOLORSHIPS

For a second year, our chapter has responded to the Utilities Council of IFMA’s challenge to raise money for the IFMA Foundation Global Workforce Initiative.  This challenge was in the form of fund raising during the Utility Council’s golf tournament.  The challenge was:  The Utilities Council of IFMA will make a $100 donation for every Chapter or Council that contributes $250 (up to 25).  If at least 25 or more Chapters and Councils make a donation - the Utilities Council will double their donation to $5,000!

The response has been overwhelming!  The 25th Anniversary of the Doug Underwood/Utilities Council Golf Tournament have exceeded the challenge with 31 Chapters & Councils participating.  They have not only exceeded the target of 25 Chapters & Councils but have also sold out the Tee Box and Green sponsorships.

As a result, the Utilities Council of IFMA added $5,000 to your donations of $7,750 (31 Chapters@$250 each) for a grand total of $12,750.  In addition, both Kent Miller and John Ritter personally contributed $250 to the IFMA Foundation Global Workforce Initiative.  Total golf tournament proceeds will provide $25,000 in scholarships and expenses for students to attend World Workplace.

We are very proud to have been part of this and it also gets our Chapter great exposure within the IFMA community.  The following is a message from John Ritter as sent to all IFMA Chapter and Council leaders:

CHANGES IN LEASING RULES

The existing accounting models for leases require lessees and lessors to classify their leases as either capital leases or operating leases and to account for those leases differently. Those models have been criticized for failing to meet the needs of users of financial statements because they do not always provide a faithful representation of leasing transactions.

As a result, there has been a widespread request from users of financial statements and other stakeholders to change the accounting guidance so that lessees would be required to recognize assets and liabilities arising from leases.

In addition, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a report on off-balance sheet activities in 2005 and recommended that changes be made to the existing lease accounting requirements to ensure greater transparency in financial reporting. A number of academic studies have made similar recommendations.
